Southwest Trails

Scope of Work

The work consists of construction of 0.5 miles of 10-foot trail along a drainage canal from Florida Avenue to University Boulevard and 1.34 miles of 6-foot and 8-foot sidewalk along Dairy Road, Florida Avenue and University Boulevard. Specific improvements are noted in the location map and listed below:

  • Removal of existing 5-foot wide concrete sidewalk along the east side of Dairy Road from Eber Boulevard to Florida Avenue and installation of 8-foot wide concrete sidewalks within the same limits. 
  • Installation of new 6-foot wide concrete sidewalk along the north side of Florida Avenue, from the Southwest Canal to Fan Palm Boulevard. 
  • Installation of a new 6-foot wide concrete sidewalk along the north side of University Boulevard from Carlson Circle to Leonard Weaver Boulevard.
  • Removal of the existing sidewalk along the north side of University Boulevard from Leonard Weaver Boulevard to Lipscomb Street and installation of an 8-foot wide concrete sidewalk within the same limits.
  • Installation of a 10-foot wide asphalt trail along the east side of the existing drainage canal from Florida Avenue to University Boulevard.
  • Traffic calming includes installation of two Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) at Florida Avenue, between Purdue Street and Mazur Drive and Florida Avenue at Meadowridge Drive in front of the Melbourne Sportsplex.
  • Pedestrian upgrades and ADA-compliant curb ramps at the intersection improvements at Dairy Road and Eber Boulevard and at Dairy Road and Florida Avenue.
  • Transit upgrades at Forest Creek Drive, Purdue Street and Rachel Street include a sidewalk connection and an ADA-compliant concrete boarding and alighting pad. 
  • Drainage improvements at the Leonard Weaver Boulevard and University Boulevard include a new endwall with pipe extensions to allow for the installation of new sidewalk.
  • Also included is mobilization, maintenance of traffic, erosion control, clearing and grubbing, regular excavation, embankment and sod.

Start of Construction

The work will commence sometime in the Summer 2025 and will last approximately five months.
