A proposed constitutional amendment (Amendment 3) on the November 3 general election ballot could change how property taxes are applied to homesteads and how local government services are funded.
If the ballot measure is approved, the City of Melbourne would experience a funding gap of approximately $10.1 million* in FY2028 and an additional $4.9 million* in FY2029, for a combined total of $15 million* in the City’s operating budget.
This could affect the City’s ability provide the services that Melbourne’s residents expect and rely on, including police, fire, parks and recreation, emergency management, roads, and more.
