Swim Lesson Class Descriptions

Parent/Child - Ages 6 – 36 Months

Parent/Child is designed to orient young children to the water and prepare them to learn to swim in the American Red Cross preschool courses. This class will give parents safety information and teach them techniques to help parents orient their children to the water.  It also provides direction regarding how to supervise water activities in a responsible manner.

Preschool (Levels 1-3) – Ages 3 - 5 Years

Preschool is designed to familiarize students with the water, develop basic water skills, and begin to swim independently. Water safety is emphasized throughout all skill levels. Skills covered include: submersion, floating, and rudimentary swimming. Students will be tested on the first day and placed in the appropriate level. No skill prerequisites. Must be potty-trained. Must be able to participate in a small group with minimal parental involvement.

Learn-To-Swim – Ages 6 - 12 years

Beginner – Introduction & Fundamentals (Levels 1-2)

This level is designed to introduce students to foundational aquatic skills and rudimentary swimming strokes. A positive and safety-first attitude towards aquatic environments is developed. No skill prerequisites. Students will be tested on the first day and placed in the appropriate level.

Intermediate – Development & Improvement (Levels 3-4)

This level is designed to work on form, technique, and endurance of front crawl, elementary backstroke, and treading water. Learn the basics of back crawl, breaststroke, butterfly, and sidestroke. Personal water safety and water competency is continued to be developed. Students must be able to swim on front for 15 yards, rolling over to float when needed. Students will be tested on the first day and placed in the appropriate level.

Advanced – Refinement & Proficiency (Levels 5-6)

This level is designed to refine the performance all six strokes and increase the distances swam. Begin to prepare students for competitive swimming or other goals.

Teen & Adult Swim Classes – Ages 13 and up

This level is designed to help educate participants in the aquatic environment as well as teach them swimming strokes and safety skills. Instruction is individualized to the needs and goals of each participant.
Certified swim instructors will determine skill levels and could recommend changes in class level due to a child’s skill.
