Fire Loss Per Capita

Melbourne Fire Department staffs eight fire stations. These stations are strategically located through the City allowing for a quicker response by crews to mitigate property loss by fire.

In 2024, property loss per capita was $14.10 in the City of Melbourne.  In 2023, it was $14.32, which was lower than the national and state per capita fire loss amounts. The 2023 nationwide property loss per capita was $68.67 (provided by the National Fire Protection Association), and the 2023 statewide property loss per capita was $63.44 (provided by the State Fire Marshal’s office).

Note: Property loss per capita can dramatically change each year because of a large loss fire.
