Stone Magnet Middle Safe Routes to School

Scope of Work

The scope of work includes installation of approximately 6,500 linear feet (1.2 miles) of 6-foot concrete sidewalk along:

  • Lipscomb Street – Florida Avenue to Reverend Nathaniel L Harris Street
  • East side of Monroe Street – Spain Avenue to University Boulevard 
  • University Boulevard – Colbert Circle to Monroe Street

Traffic calming elements include “Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons” (RRFBs) and traffic cushions along the following streets:

  • Lipscomb Street near Reverend Nathaniel L Harris Street
  • Lipscomb Street near Cedar Drive 
  • Monroe Street near Spain Avenue

A bus shelter pad is proposed at an existing bus stop on Lipscomb Street near Poplar Lane. A bench and shelter will be installed after the project is completed.

The project also includes the removal of existing sidewalk, removal of existing asphalt Type-F curb, Type-E curb, and drop curb, driveway reconstruction, new curb ramps, detectable warnings, crosswalk installation, and minor milling and overlay of crosswalk in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Other construction elements include mobilization, maintenance of traffic, erosion control, clearing and grubbing, embankment, mailbox relocation, sod, signage, striping, and pavement markings.  

Start of Construction

The work will commence sometime in the Summer 2025 and last approximately five months.
