Watch out For Fraudulent Invoices

The City is aware of reports of scammers impersonating local planning, zoning, engineering and building departments in an attempt to obtain fraudulent payments from residents and businesses who have submitted applications to cities.

These emails may appear official and may include invoices or requests for payment related to permits, development projects, zoning applications, or business licensing. In some cases, the messages may contain publicly available information to appear legitimate.

To help protect yourself:

• Verify any unexpected payment request directly with the appropriate City Department using a known phone number or the City's official website.
• Carefully review the sender's email address and verify if you think it looks suspicious. 
• Do not send payments or banking information in response to unsolicited emails without first confirming their legitimacy.
• Be cautious of messages that create a sense of urgency or request immediate payment.

If you receive a suspicious email claiming to be from the City regarding planning, zoning, permitting, or licensing, do not respond or submit payment until you have verified the request with City staff.

Residents and businesses who believe they have received a fraudulent email or may have been the victim of a scam are encouraged to report the incident to local law enforcement.
