Space Coast Honor Flight to Launch from MLB
Published on June 02, 2025
At last week’s Melbourne Airport Authority Board meeting, it was officially announced that Space Coast Honor Flight (SCHF) will use Melbourne Orlando International Airport (MLB) as its departure point for three Honor Flights scheduled for this year. The flights are set for September 6, October 11, and November 8.
Each flight will transport 50 veterans, 50 guardians, and 12 SCHF staff members to Washington, DC, for a one-day trip to visit the memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice. These charter flights, operated by Allegiant, will have all airport-associated fees waived by MLB in support of this meaningful initiative.
SCHF’s transition to MLB was formally announced at the meeting by Retired Rear Admiral James Hart, USN, who emphasized the operational improvements this move will bring, “In the past each mission was a 24-hour evolution and by moving to MLB we expect reduce that to 18 hours, which will make a positive difference for vets and allow for more local community support.”
Honor flights are organized to recognize and celebrate America’s veterans by flying them to the nation's capital to visit memorials built in their honor. The experience offers a day of remembrance, camaraderie, and gratitude, often leaving a lifelong impact on the participants.
“It is an honor and distinct pleasure to work with Space Coast Honor Flight,” said Greg Donovan, Executive Director of MLB. “This organization is self-funded, and we encourage the community to support this cause.”
Melbourne Airport Authority Board Chairman William Potter expressed appreciation to all involved, saying, “We thank everyone for working so diligently on this important endeavor.”
