The City of Melbourne is pleased to announce that Shane Leech has been selected to serve as the new Chief of the Melbourne Fire Department.

“Shane Leech will be an exceptional Fire Chief for the City of Melbourne,” said City Manager Jenni Lamb. “He has extensive knowledge of the City of Melbourne and how it operates plus he is deeply committed to the citizens of Melbourne.”

Leech has served the Melbourne Fire Department for 28 years, more than half of which have been in senior leadership roles, including Battalion Chief, Division Chief, and Deputy Chief. He has served as Interim Fire Chief since former Fire Chief Chuck Bogle’s retirement in July 2025.

“It is both an honor and privilege to serve as Fire Chief for the City of Melbourne,” Leech said. “I am committed to working alongside the dedicated men and women of this department as we continue to deliver the highest level of fire and emergency services to our community.”
