The City’s Environmental Community Outreach Division is proud to announce the winners of its annual ECO school awards. These awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of students, educators and staff who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability.
The ECO School awards recognize those schools who go above and beyond to integrate green practices into their daily campus lives. The nine schools earning this year’s awards had hands-on activities for students that focused on environmental sustainability and conservation, pollinator and vegetable gardens, recycling programs, learning proper animal care, and much, much more.
Gemini, Indialantic, Sea Park and Sherwood Elementary Schools; West Melbourne School for Science; Verdi Eco School; DeLaura Middle School; Melbourne High School; and Palm Bay Magnet High School all qualified for this prestigious award. Each year the impressive amount of environmental care and ownership that these students and teachers showcase increases. This year’s recipients have shown that small, local actions can lead to significant global impacts. Join us in congratulating this year’s winners!
