The Melbourne Fire Department held a Service and Achievement Ceremony on December 12 to honor and recognize firefighters for their recent promotions. A Unit Citation was awarded for excellence and compassion in service, and new members of the team were sworn in and formally welcomed, including the Melbourne Fire Department’s first K9 support dog.

Unit Citation

Lieutenant Grove, Driver Engineer Collins, Firefighter Jones and Firefighter Dooley were awarded a Unit Citation for their compassion, professionalism and commitment to service. In July, they responded to a rescue call for an 81-year-old man who sustained a severe arm laceration from a glass tabletop. Upon arrival, the crew quickly and effectively assessed the injury and applied a tourniquet to control the significant bleeding. Once the patient was stabilized and care was transferred to Brevard County Fire Rescue, the crew identified a significant blood trail along the sidewalk and porch area. Recognizing the emotional toll this would have on the patient’s wife, the crew went above and beyond their medical duties by cleaning the affected area.

Promotions

Andrew Colbert was promoted to Battalion Chief.

Kayla Burri, David Eberhart, Dustin Hoyle and Joseph Lucarotti were promoted to Lieutenant.

Joshua Buckingham, Cody Denney, David Faulx, Corey Flowers, Brandon Lanza, Joshua Pace, Kaden Stanley and Lane Warren were promoted to Driver Engineer.

Kamden Ireland and Giovanni Stanley were recognized for completing their one-year probation.

New Firefighters

Ty Avery, John Corbin, Zachary Seymour, and Zachary Zies were officially sworn in and formally welcomed to the Melbourne Fire Department after completing orientation.
