The City of Melbourne is seeking volunteers to help build the city’s first inclusive playground.
The playground will be built at Southwest Park, located at 400 W. Florida Avenue, on October 10, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Volunteers will help build and attach play panels and interactive accessories with guidance from professional installers.
All tools and materials will be provided by the installers. Refreshments will also be available. Volunteers are asked to wear closed-toe shoes and to bring sunscreen and a hat.
Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome. There will be a variety of tasks so everyone can participate comfortably.
An inclusive playground is intentionally designed so children of all abilities can play and interact together. Features include accessible routes and ramps, sensory play elements, ground-level activities, supportive surfacing, and equipment created for various physical, sensory, and social needs. This will be the first inclusive playground in the City of Melbourne.
