On September 15, the City of Melbourne hosted a public workshop to present the conceptual design for the proposed Holmes Park Plaza and gather community feedback. Approximately 40 community members attended the workshop and shared input on desired amenities, design considerations, and how they envision using the plaza.
The proposed plaza would expand the existing Holmes Park into a flexible public gathering space with areas for events, an amphitheater, a children’s play area, and additional amenities designed to support a variety of community uses. The concept incorporates the park’s existing tree canopy and natural features while creating spaces that can accommodate both everyday use and larger community events.
Workshop attendees were invited to provide feedback through interactive boards, comment cards, and a QR code. The workshop also provided an opportunity for the project team to answer questions and discuss design considerations with the community.
The City’s consultant Kimley-Horn will review and incorporate input from the workshop as they refine the conceptual design. The next steps for the project include compiling all public input, updating the design concepts, and preparing materials for a future presentation to City leadership. The anticipated design completion is early to mid-2027.
