The Melbourne City Council has agreed to donate City-owned property located at 2265 North Harbor City Boulevard to the J.L. Golightly Chapter 32, Disabled American Veterans Inc. (DAV). City Council approved a resolution for the donation the property, which has been leased by the DAV since 1978.
The DAV requested that the City either donate or sell the property to the nonprofit organization to facilitate DAV’s eligibility for state and federal grants to improve and maintain the property and to continue its services to local disabled veterans.
“We’re going to pass this resolution and turn the keys over to you and you can drive,” said Council Member Mark LaRusso to members of the DAV during the March 10 City Council meeting when the resolution was approved. “I'm so proud that we're able to do this as a city.”
City Council found that the donation of the property to the DAV furthers the public interest of providing nonprofit services to local disabled American veterans, constituting good cause shown to serve a public purpose.
