City Celebrates Dedicated Parks and Recreation Employees

Every July, communities across the country celebrate National Park and Recreation Month, recognizing the vital role parks, recreation programs, and public spaces play in supporting health, wellness, and community connection. This year’s theme, “The Power Of…” highlights the power of parks and recreation, play, nature, community, belonging, wellbeing, and the people who make these experiences possible.

There are 124 full and part-time employees in the City of Melbourne's Parks, Recreation and Golf Department who work hard each and every day to provide a wide variety of services and programs to our residents, including:

• Affordable summer camp options for working families and swim lessons at our pools
• Maintaining multiple parks, playgrounds and athletic fields and multiple places to play Pickleball, basketball, tennis, golf, and other popular sports
• Providing low-cost rental space for hosting a wide variety of activities for every age and interest
• Putting on MelBOOM and other popular local events that bring the community together

But our Parks and Recreation professionals do much more than manage parks, facilities, and recreation centers. They help promote physical and mental wellness, strengthen family bonds, encourage social interaction, and inspire environmental stewardship. Their work has a lasting impact on the community by providing opportunities for residents and visitors to play, learn, and thrive.
