Nov. 4, 2:40 p.m., Update: Water Main Break Isolated
Published on November 04, 2026
The broken water main has been located and has been isolated from the rest of the water system so that repairs may begin. The water main was damaged by the severe flooding experienced in south Melbourne.
Because the broken water main has been isolated from the rest of the water distribution system, all customers should now have water service restored. However, some customers may still be experiencing lower-than-usual water pressure.
The precautionary boil water notice that was issued for all customers on November 2 is still in effect and could remain in effect through the end of the day Friday, November 6.
Thank you for your continued patience. We will issue an update as soon as we have more information.

Nov. 2, 2026: Precautionary Boil Water Notice Issued for All Water Customers
A precautionary boil water notice has been issued for all City of Melbourne water customers, including City of West Melbourne water customers.
We are aware that some areas have no water pressure or low water pressure.
A water main break has occurred, but its exact location is unknown at this time. Crews are working to locate the break and make repairs as quickly as possible.
As a precaution, we advise that all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes be boiled. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. As an alternative, bottled water may be used.
This precautionary boil water notice will remain in effect until the problem has been corrected and testing confirms that the water is safe to drink. We will distribute another notification at that time.
