On August 9, 2026, at approximately 0146 hours, the Melbourne Police Department received calls for a vehicle crash near the intersection of Croton Road and McKinley Avenue.
The initial crash investigation shows a White Jeep Cherokee, traveling northbound on Croton Rd., approaching McKinley Ave. An electric scooter was also traveling northbound on Croton Rd. The driver of the Jeep attempted to swerve to avoid contact with the scooter but was unable to avoid the scooter and struck it. Brevard County Fire Rescue responded and transported the pedestrian riding the scooter to a local hospital. The pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the hospital and was pronounced deceased on August 10, 2026.
