On May 21, 2026, at approximately 11:40 a.m., the Melbourne Communications Center received a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic crash at the intersection of N. Harbor City Boulevard (US-1) and Parkway Drive.
Officers from the Melbourne Police Department and personnel from the Melbourne Fire Department responded to the scene and located an adult female pedestrian suffering from significant injuries related to the crash. Melbourne Fire Department paramedics immediately began providing emergency medical treatment while Melbourne Police officers initiated the crash investigation.
Melbourne Police Department Traffic Homicide Investigators responded shortly thereafter and assumed responsibility for the investigation. The Melbourne Police Department Crime Scene Investigations Unit also responded to process and document the scene. Due to the investigation, the intersection remained closed for an extended period of time.
The pedestrian was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center for further medical treatment. Despite lifesaving efforts by first responders and hospital staff, the pedestrian later succumbed to her injuries.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
