City of Melbourne Designates August Florida Water Professionals Month
Published on July 25, 2025
Water is all around us, under us, and within us. Essential to every living being, water sustains our bodies, communities, and environment. In fact, most of the human body is composed of water, particularly in critical organs like the brain and kidneys. Plants, animals, and people alike simply cannot survive without clean, accessible water.
This is why protecting Florida’s water resources, wetlands, and environment is so crucial—and why the work of water professionals deserves recognition and respect.
To honor this vital workforce, the City of Melbourne will be joining other communities throughout Florida in designating August as Florida Water Professionals Month.
In a rapidly growing city like Melbourne, dedicated Public Works and Utilities employees work around the clock, 365 days a year, to ensure clean drinking water is delivered to every household, wastewater is collected and treated, streets are cleaned, and our natural resources are preserved for future generations. These professionals play an essential role in maintaining and operating critical infrastructure, often behind the scenes. For example, when a water main breaks in the middle of the night, utility workers respond immediately — no matter the hour or weather conditions — to restore service and prevent future damage.
Let us take this month to celebrate and thank the men and women who work tirelessly to protect Florida’s water resources — because even though their work may be out of sight, it should never be out of mind.
