Under the supervision of the assigned Supervisor, performs semi skilled manual labor using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and other equipment at two separate facilities. Requires the operation of motor vehicles up to and including semi-tractor trucks. Works with a moderate degree of independence but work is subject to review while in progress and upon completion. Performs other duties as required.




Operates farm type tractors, semi-tractor trucks, tractor mowers, forklifts, lawn mowers, edgers, trimmers, chainsaws, and other hand and power tools used in grounds maintenance of a wastewater facility.

Performs sweeping, scrubbing, dusting, mopping and related work for offices and other buildings as assigned to ensure their cleanliness, including bathrooms.

Performs maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds.

Fertilize and apply insect and weed control chemicals as directed.

Assist water reclamation operators and mechanics in a laboring capacity.

Operates and maintains on site and off-site reclaimed water irrigation spray fields. Checks field operation and assists in adjusting spray times as necessary. Performs preventative and corrective maintenance to irrigation controllers, timers, solenoid valves and large capacity irrigation spray heads.

Assists with planning of new irrigation areas and performs system installation.

Monitors inventory levels and procure supplies as directed by Supervisor.

Rakes, picks up paper and other trash from assigned areas.

Performs minor maintenance and service on all tractors and small equipment.

Performs preventative maintenance checks on all motor vehicles.

Cleans, wire brushes, and scrapes equipment, tanks and buildings for primer and paint preparation. Uses solvents, primers and paints as directed.

Plant site tanks to be cleaned as assigned.




Possession of a high school diploma or GED, Work experience in a similar capacity. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class “B” commercial driver's license. Applicants who do not currently possess a Class “B” CDL must acquire a learner’s permit within 3 months of hire and obtain the license within 6 months of hire. Applicants who possess an out of state driver’s license must obtain the Florida license within 10 days of employment.


Knowledge of tools and equipment used in grounds and building maintenance.

Knowledge of the operations and routine maintenance of diesel and gasoline powered equipment.

Knowledge of the operation and routine maintenance of high volume commercial irrigation systems and related equipment.

Knowledge of proper grounds and landscape maintenance techniques and planting procedures.

Ability to read and apply occupational safety rules and regulations.

Ability to operate trucks, tractors, forklifts, and mowers.

Ability to operate hand and power tools.

Ability to perform strenuous labor in all weather conditions.

Ability to work evenings, nights, weekends and holidays as may be required.


Ability to operate motor vehicles (i.e., pickup trucks, vans and riding grounds maintenance equipment, warehouse equipment). Binocular vision as necessary to accurately determine depth.

Ability to hear and understand assignments in English in a normal tone of voice.

Ability to see and read letters, numbers, words, characters, or symbols that are both large and small.

Ability to walk, stand or sit for periods up to two (2) hours.

Ability to use large and small hand tools which require the use of hands, wrists and fingers. Dexterity and fine motor skills required.

Ability to move back and forth and sideways while in a bending, kneeling or squatting position.

Ability to go from a standing or sitting position to a bending, kneeling or squatting position, or vice-versa, periodically.

Ability to learn and remember how to complete tasks without assistance once trained.

Ability to lift, carry, push and pull items that weigh up to 50 pounds over uneven terrain, up/down stairs or ladders.

Ability to lift and/or carry items that are considered awkward to grasp or hold on to.

Ability to identify colors and shades of colors by sight.

Ability to put on and wear personal protective gear as required by occupations safety rules, regulations and working conditions.

Ability to lift items weighing up to 40lbs. above the head or down from over the head.

Ability to work in undesirable conditions including dust, dirt, fumes, odors, noise, wetness, humidity, hot and cold.

Ability and willingness to enter and work in confined spaces as necessary when provided adequate safety devices.

Ability to work around various hazardous chemicals and materials.
