The Hickory Street Complete Street will include sidewalks, bike lanes, marked and decorative crosswalks, median refuge islands, landscaping, street furnishings, and enhancements to bus benches and shelters. Additional improvements include roadway reconstruction, milling and resurfacing, utility installations, drainage improvements, curb ramps, lighting and signage.
The Hickory Street Complete Street Project is one of several complete street projects funded through the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization (SCTPO) in Brevard County. The SCTPO managed the feasibility phase of the Hickory Street Complete Street project. The City of Melbourne, as the matching agency, is designated as the lead agency for the design and construction of this project. Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is providing federal funds for the design and construction.
The total construction cost of the project is $7,832,147. Federal funds will provide $7,266,342. The City of Melbourne will contribute the remaining $565,805.
