Yvonne Minus represents Melbourne’s District 3 (view a map of Council Districts). She was elected to the Melbourne City Council in 2016 and selected as Vice Mayor on November 28, 2017. Her current term ends in 2020. She previously served as a Melbourne City Council Member from January 2014 through November 2014.
Vice Mayor Minus currently serves on the Brevard Homeless Coalition Board of Directors.
She also has served as president of the Melbourne Police Community Relations Council (MPCRC) since January 2007. The MPCRC meets on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at Carver Park Community Center on odd numbered months and at Joseph N. Davis (formerly Grant Street) Community Center on even-numbered months. The MPCRC listens to residents' concerns, and the Melbourne Police Department, Code Enforcement and other entities follow up on reported issues and give an updated report at the next meeting. Statistics on crime, drugs, burglaries, prostitution and other issues are provided quarterly. MPCRC also holds an annual Community Forum at Joseph N. Davis (formerly Grant Street) Community Center where citizens can meet with and ask questions of law enforcement officers of the Melbourne, Palm Bay and West Melbourne Police Departments, Judicial representatives, State Attorney, Brevard County Sheriff, probation administrators and many more.
Vice Mayor Minus has served as president of the South Brevard County Task Force since January 2007. The Council mentors and assists at-risk youth in the community and provides free annual workshops that address bullying, crime, and youth development issues. Generous donations from various organizations support this worthwhile organization.
Vice Mayor Minus is a 32-year member of Piper-Gardner American Legion Auxiliary 191. She also is a Past President of the organization.
Vice Mayor Minus is a Silver Life member and past secretary of the South Brevard Branch NAACP-Melbourne. She received the prestigious Presidential Award on two occasions for outstanding service to the branch and the community. She is also a member of several fraternal organizations that serve the community, state of Florida and nation.
Vice Mayor Minus is a faithful member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Melbourne, where Rev. Nathaniel L. Harris has been Pastor for more than 30 years. She has served as Usher Ministry No. 1 president for 15 years. She also serves as secretary of the Macedonia Community Development Corporation of South Brevard board and is a member of the church personnel committee. She is also Assistant Secretary of the Mount Zion Northeast Coast Missionary Baptist District Association of Florida Inc.
