The City of Melbourne continues to work closely with officials at Brevard County and the Florida Department of Health to monitor the spread of the Coronavirus/COVID-19 and formulate a coordinated local response.

Phase 2

July 1, 2020, Update:

The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation has amended the emergency order issued on June 26, 2020, regarding the suspension of on-premises consumption of alcohol at bars and pubs to allow any establishment licensed to sell food to also sell alcohol. For details, please see Amended Emergency Order 2020-09

Phase 2 Highlights:

  • People are encouraged to limit gatherings to 50 or fewer, up from 10 or fewer under Phase
  • Restaurants can allow seating at the bar.
  • Bars can open with 50% capacity inside and must be seated for service; outdoor can operate at full capacity. However, on-site alcohol consumption at bars was suspended by the DBPR on June 26.
  • Retail can open at full capacity.
  • Gyms can operate at full capacity.
  • Entertainment businesses, such as movie theaters and bowling alleys, can operate at 50% capacity.
  • Personal service businesses, such as tattoo parlors and tanning salons, can operate following health department guidelines.

Waste Management Update: Please Call for Pick Up of Large Piles of Yard Waste

Waste Management is currently collecting an extraordinary volume of curbside yard waste, most likely as a result of continued stay-at-home guidance related to COVID-19.   

If you have a large, loose yard waste pile, please call ahead to have it picked up -- These piles require a specific collection truck. Regularly scheduled weekly yard waste collection is only for containerized yard waste and small piles. 

To schedule collection of a large, loose yard waste pile, please contact Waste Management:   

City of Melbourne residents may also call the City's ECO Division at 321-608-5080.

Volumes continue to be extremely high across all residential waste streams, including bulky waste.  If your recycling or regular trash is not picked up on your designated service day, please leave your cart out so that Waste Management service first thing the following morning.
