City Recognizes Dedication of Customer Service Staff

During last night’s (Oct. 8) City Council meeting, Mayor Kathy Meehan read a proclamation declaring October 7-11 to be National Customer Service Week in the City of Melbourne. National Customer Service Week is an international celebration of the importance of customer service and of the people who serve and support customers on a daily basis.

“Efficient local governments are those that display a strong commitment to customer satisfaction,” Mayor Meehan said. “Each month, the city’s Utility Billing and Collection staff answers more than 4,600 phone calls, assists 4,500 customers at the front counter, and responds to more than 400 e-mail inquiries.”

The City of Melbourne is a regional water supplier providing water services to 58,000 customers in Melbourne, West Melbourne, Melbourne Village, Melbourne Beach, Indialantic, Indian Harbour Beach, Satellite Beach, and Palm Shores. National Customer Service Week has been celebrated across the country since 1992 when President George H. Bush signed a Presidential Proclamation setting aside the first week of October as National Customer Service Week.
