Council Approves Changing Name of “Airport Boulevard” to “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard”
The Melbourne City Council gave final approval on July 9 to change the name of Airport Boulevard to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
- The name change is effective immediately.
- The United States Postal Service will continue to recognize both names for the next 18 months.
- Brevard County agencies, including the Brevard County Property Appraiser’s office, will honor both addresses for one year.
Council voted to change the name of the roadway after extensive discussion and public comments received during two readings of an ordinance to name the street in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and at a previous meeting held in May to discuss the possibility of renaming of a roadway in honor of Dr. King.
