Council Approves Changing Name of “Mill Street” to “Reverend Nathaniel L Harris Street”
The Melbourne City Council gave final approval on February 26 to change the name of Mill Street, between Main Street and Lipscomb Street, to “Reverend Nathaniel L Harris Street.”
The request for the street name change was accompanied by an abundance of information pertaining to the life Reverend Harris. Reverend Harris came to the Melbourne area in 1985 and became ordained in 1987 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Throughout the years, he has become a pillar in the community participating in Cub Scouting, the Senior Citizens Outreach Committee and Baseball Little League of South Melbourne.
The name change is effective immediately. New signs will be installed within the next two weeks. The new and old street names will be recognized for a one-year period to allow residents adequate time to communicate their new addresses with friends, family, businesses and others who send them mail.
"Mill Street" has been renamed "Reverend Nathaniel L Harris Street."
