Grant Street Deep Injection Well Test to Begin on February 25

Post Date:02/25/2019 11:55 AM
A mechanical integrity test of the deep injection well at the Grant Street Water Reclamation Facility will begin on February 25.

The well extends 2,500 feet into the ground and receives effluent from both of the city’s wastewater reclamation facilities. Both state and federal environmental agencies require testing every five years to confirm that the disposal well is functioning properly.

During the test period, which can extend to five days, it is possible that treated effluent may be discharged into Crane Creek. Any discharged flows will be monitored closely and will be minimized to the greatest extent possible by maximizing on-site storage and the amount of reclaimed water distributed for irrigation. Extra treatment measures will be taken to ensure that any water going into the creek will meet all regulatory permit requirements and not pose a risk to people or marine organisms.
