City Council to Hold Special Meeting on January 24 to Discuss Fluoride

The Melbourne City Council will hold a special meeting on January 24 at 6 p.m. to receive information and public input on the addition of fluoride to the city’s drinking water. The meeting will be held in the in the Council Chamber of Melbourne City Hall, 900 East Strawbridge Avenue, Melbourne. 

The City of Melbourne has been adding fluoride to its drinking water since the mid-1960s. The City Council will be hearing presentations both for and against fluoridation of drinking water and will listen to public comments on the issue. 

All Melbourne water customers who are interested in this issue are encouraged to attend. Any decision made by the Melbourne City Council regarding the addition of fluoride to the drinking water supply would affect all consumers of the city’s water system. 

The City of Melbourne provides drinking water to portions of unincorporated Brevard County south of the Pineda Causeway and the following cities and towns:  Melbourne, Melbourne Beach, Indialantic, Indian Harbour Beach, Satellite Beach, Palm Shores, Melbourne Village, and West Melbourne.
