Volunteer Board Members Celebrated at Annual Reception

Post Date:10/26/2018 12:25 PM

Citizens who serve as volunteer board members were honored for their years of service to the City of Melbourne during the City’s 20th Annual Board Reception, October 25 at the Courtyard at the Oaks.

The annual board reception provides an opportunity for the Mayor and City Council to recognize volunteer board members for their contributions to the city. In 2018, approximately 131 members served on 17 committees that guide a range of city services from architectural standards and affordable housing to code enforcement and pension planning. Many of the city’s board members have served for multiple years — even decades. Combined, their years of service total more than 1,000. Receiving special recognition at the reception was Mr. Charles Jackson, who was honored for his more than 42 years of service on the Zoning Board of Adjustment.

The City has been hosting the board reception annually since 1999 as a way to formally recognize and show appreciation for its volunteer board members. The following volunteers were recognized for reaching milestones of service in 2018:

Code Enforcement Board:
Maggie Castellano, 5 years

Firefighters’ Pension Plan Board of Trustees
Payton Jones, 5 years

General Employees’ Pension Plan Board of Trustees:
Lisa Solina, 10 years

Historic and Architectural Review Board:
Kyle Anderson, 5 years

Planning and Zoning Board:
Donald Laird, 25 years

Zoning Board of Adjustment
Thomas Herbert, 10 years

The City is currently recruiting interested citizens to serve on its boards. To find out how you can get involved, contact the City Clerk's Office at 321-608-7220 or city.clerk@mlbfl.org.
