City of Melbourne expands reclaimed water service

Post Date:09/28/2018 12:56 PM

The City of Melbourne’s reclaimed water distribution utility will soon be able to send out an additional 30,000 gallons a day thanks to a project that is nearing completion.

A reclaimed water extension project will result in 1,100 additional feet of main in the Mosswood/Eau Gallie Boulevard/Crane Field area. This expansion will make reclaimed water available to a developer in the area who plans to construct townhomes, single-family homes and retail.

Reclaimed water is domestic wastewater that receives advanced treatment, filtration and high-level disinfection processes so the water can be safely recycled and distributed back into to the community for a variety of uses.

Melbourne has been safely distributing reclaimed water to our community for 30 years. Reclaimed water customers in Melbourne help recycle an average of 2.2 million gallons of water every day.
