A new project to transform Hickory Street into a “complete street” that is safe, accessible and enjoyable for roadway users of all ages and abilities, including pedestrians, bicyclists, drivers and bus riders is underway. The conceptual image above shows what the segment of Hickory Street next to Wells Park will look like once construction is completed (image used courtesy of the SCTPO.)
The Hickory Street Complete Street Project began on March 28, 2018, and will take approximately 18 months to complete. Construction will occur in two phases in order to minimize the disruption to motorists, pedestrians and businesses. Phase 1 will be between Hibiscus Blvd. and NASA Blvd. and Phase 2 will be between Hibiscus Blvd. and New Haven Ave.
