Violators of Melbourne’s water conservation ordinance are
regularly reported to the Environmental Community Outreach Division. Reports are provided by City
customer service workers and meter readers, by other City staff, and by residents. If it is a
first-time violation of watering hours, a packet is sent that includes an educational
letter and informative brochures. This information is included in a database. Those with
additional violations are subject to penalties set forth by Melbourne ordinance if inside
the City limits, or the issue is turned over for further action to the St. Johns River
Water Management District if it is not within the City limits.
