Multi-Familt RecyclingMulti-Family Recycling

The City of Melbourne utilizes a 90-gallon toter system to collect recyclables from multi-family residents. Listed below are the commodities that are accepted in our residential recycling program.  These items no longer need to be separated and can be placed in any toter:

Multi-family unit recycling: The recycling guidelines remain the same for apartment and condominium residents, except that material is placed in a 90-gallon toter that is located in your complex. Collection is weekly.

Aluminum, Steel & Tin Cans: Recycle your beverage and food cans by placing them in the toter. Lightly rinse the cans. You may leave on the label. Empty aerosol cans are also accepted.

Glass: Recycle your glass jars and bottles once a week by placing them in the toter. Lightly rinse the container. Throw the cap away. You may leave on the label. Recycle brown, green and clear. DO NOT include window glass, ceramics, coffee cups, light bulbs, mirrors, or broken glass.

Paper Products:  You can include newspapers, magazines, phone books, paper bags, envelopes (with or without plastic windows), junk mail, catalogs, cereal boxes, milk and juice cartons. Try to keep the paper dry, since rain reduces the quality.

Plastic Bottles:   Plastic bottles and containers with necks are accepted, numbers 1 through 7 (numbers are found on the bottom of the container.)    Throw the caps and spray pumps away. You may leave on the label. Crush plastic bottles to provide additional space in your bin.   DO NOT include plastic bottles that contained automotive products, pool chemicals, and pesticides or fertilizers. These items contaminate the recyclables.
