Curbside
and Drop-off Recycling
The City of Melbourne utilizes a multi-bin system to collect recyclables from residents.
Items do not need to be sorted.
Listed below are the commodities that are accepted in our curbside program:
Aluminum,
Steel & Tin Cans:
Lightly rinse the cans. You may leave on the label. Empty aerosol
cans are also accepted.
Glass:
Lightly rinse the container. Throw the cap away. You may leave on the label. Recycle
brown, green and clear bottles or jars. DO NOT include window glass, ceramics, coffee cups, light bulbs, mirrors, or broken glass.
Paper
Products: You can include newspapers, magazines,
phone books, paper bags, envelopes (with or without plastic windows), junk
mail, catalogs, cereal boxes, milk and juice cartons. Try to keep
the paper dry, since rain reduces the quality.
Plastic
Bottles & Containers:
Plastic bottles and containers with necks are accepted, numbers
1 through 7 (numbers are found on the bottom of the container.) Throw the caps and spray pumps away. You may leave on the label. Crush plastic bottles to provide additional space in your bin.
DO NOT include plastic bottles that contained automotive products, pool chemicals, and pesticides or fertilizers. These items contaminate the recyclables.
Setting out for collection: Place recyclables curbside between 5 p.m. on the day before collection and 6:30 a.m. on collection day.
Placement for collection: Place recyclables within four feet of the curb or edge of street surface, and adjacent to the driveway on collection day.
DO NOT block the use of sidewalks.
Requesting bins: A set of two bins are provided to single family residents free of charge. Just call the recycling hotline at
(321) 953-6302.
