The
Blanche Hopkins
Memorial Beautification Award was established in 1974 and is judged by the
Beautification & Environmental Advisory Committee with the endorsement
of the Melbourne City Council. The recipient is awarded $100 and is named
on a plaque displayed in the Leisure Services Department at the Eau Gallie
Civic Center.
This award is
given to recognize an outstanding contribution to the City of Melbourne by
an individual, group or organization and will be presented when in the
opinion of the judges, an achievement is worthy of the intent of the
award.
Suggested
Criteria
Inspiring public planting projects, civic plantings
incorporating principles of landscape design and including the City’s
planting theme, protecting plants on State conservation lists, city-wide
or area-wide cleanups; establishment of nature trails, re-cycling
program, protecting trees or any similar activity benefiting the ecology
(i.e. reclamation of disturbed areas or eradication of non-native
invasive plant life).
Plans and
locations may need to be reviewed by the City or other appropriate
governmental agencies.
