The Melbourne Police Department has
created a Sex Offender Tracking Unit in response to Melbourne City
Ordinance 2005-119, which includes requirements for registration
of convicted sexual offenders and predators with the Melbourne
Police Department. (Updated information added to this page on
Feb. 12, 2008)
The ordinance, approved on December 13, 2005, is part of an effort
to ensure that convicted sex offenders and predators are monitored
closely, and that public information available about an individual
offender will be available from the Sex Offender Tracking Officer.
The Sex Offender Tracking Officer Luis Lopez, will
answer applicable questions about sex offenders registered as
Melbourne residents and may be reached via phone at
409-3412 or by e-mail to
llopez@melbourneflorida.org. Written correspondence can be

sexual offender, was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals
Service in Las Vegas, Nevada, on March 20, 2008. The
offender's capture was made possible by cooperation between
the Melbourne Sexual Offender Tracking Unit and the federal
agency. In February, the Melbourne unit was closing in on
Griffin's trail when he was apprehended in Cleveland,
Tennessee, but subsequently released. |

State of Wisconsin, where he was last encountered by law
enforcement. |
