Mike Nowlin was elected to the Melbourne City Council in 2008. He was elected from Melbourne's District 1, which is the northernmost district stretching from just south of Parkway Drive to the north city limit, and from the Indian River Lagoon to the west city limit. Vice Mayor Nowlin was appointed to the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization in November 2010 and is an alternate voting member of the Space Coast League of Cities Board of Directors. He is a board member of the Florida League of Cities Municipal Insurance Trust.
Council Member Nowlin was on
Nov. 8, 2011 selected by fellow council members to serve a one-year term as vice mayor. Vice Mayor Nowlin has
worked for Florida Power and Light since 1990 and is currently a
Lead Technician responsible for the day to day fleet operation in
Brevard County.
Education and Training: Vice Mayor Nowlin graduated from Eau Gallie High School in 1976 and attended Brevard Community College.
Community Service: Prior to his election to the Melbourne City Council, Vice Mayor Nowlin served on the City of Melbourne Zoning Board of Adjustment for ten years. He also served on the Eau Gallie Little League Board of Directors from 1990 to 1997. During that time he was President for two years and Vice-President for two years.
Vice Mayor Nowlin attends the Melbourne Police Community Relations Council meetings every second Thursday and encourages all community members to attend. He also attends Powell Subdivision and Grambling Subdivision meetings regularly. He is a long-standing member of the Citizens for Florida Waterways.
Personal: Vice Mayor Nowlin and wife Donna Sicilia Nowlin were married in 1980. Their son, Mike Jr., is attending UCF and is a certified pharmacy technician and assistant manager for a major drug store chain.
