Melbourne Fire Rescue has been serving the community since 1918. In 1969 the cities of Eau Gallie and Melbourne merged forming one fire department. In 1996 the fire department expanded its service level to include Advanced Life Support. We pride ourselves on providing high quality fire and medical services to our residents, businesses and visitors. Our Building/ Fire Prevention/ Code Compliance division places a priority on customer service.
Chief Paul ForsbergConstant vigilance and training are required to maintain proficient skills for prevention and suppression of fires, delivering emergency medical care and educating members of community in health and safety issues. The 172 members of our career department are highly trained and dedicated individuals with the ability to provide assistance in a variety of emergency and non-emergency situations. One hundred and thirty-seven of our members are certified firefighters. We are extremely proud that 57 of our firefighters hold paramedic certification and 77 firefighters are Emergency Technicians. In addition 14 personnel are certified fire inspectors.
Our Building/Fire Prevention/Code Compliance Division provides a variety of services. We consult with developers and contractors with regard to code compliance for projects being built in the City. We are involved with the planning process, as well as conducting periodic inspections throughout the year to ensure continued code compliance and safety for our community. The Deputy Fire Official presents public education classes with assistance from the firefighters.
Melbourne participates in the Brevard County Mutual Aid program, which enables us to draw on resources throughout the county when a major incident occurs or when personnel are committed to multiple incidents involving our units. We also participate in the statewide Emergency Response agreement; members from Melbourne can be called to provide services throughout the state.
