The
Melbourne Fire Department staffs a total of 172 personnel
who receive
continuing training to maintain the highest quality of service. The
department’s 137 combat personnel complete over
240 hours of training annually,
allowing consistent preparation for all fire and medical
emergencies.
The community is
serviced by eight fire stations, which respond to over 13,000
incidents per year. These stations are located geographically around
the city to ensure a response time of four-minutes or less, reducing
the amount of property loss caused by fires.
In addition to fire
suppression, the department also provides Emergency Medical Services.
To enhance this
service, seven of the stations are licensed in
Advance Life Support and are
staffed by paramedics. The Fire Department's
Code Compliance Division is responsible for public education, building inspections, and
fire investigations. Department personnel also aid in community
disaster relief efforts by providing search/rescue and recovery
assistance after a natural disaster, such as a hurricane.
