The Neighborhood Watch program is an effective way to get the community involved in crime prevention. As police officers, we cannot be everywhere at once, so we depend on the community to act as our eyes and ears when we are not present. Who knows better about what is going on in the community than the residents who live there?

Neighborhood Watch is a basic crime prevention program that stresses education and common sense. It teaches citizens how to help themselves through home security techniques. It also teaches citizens how to identify and report suspicious activity. By encouraging citizens to be aware of their surroundings and to look out for one another, they are decreasing the likelihood of becoming crime victims.
