CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS
Under the general direction of a Water Reclamation Plant Supervisor or Operations Supervisor, performs skilled work in the operation and maintenance of a water reclamation facility on an assigned shift. Work is performed independently according to provisions of State law and within established policies, procedures and guidelines. Incumbent is expected to make necessary changes in the operation of the facility. Work is evaluated by inspection, review of reports and conferences for condition of facilities, adherence to standards and the effective and efficient operation of the facility or program activities assigned. The incumbent will perform other tasks as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
A. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Operates a water reclamation facility and ancillary equipment; makes process changes based upon results of routine analyses; monitors instrument readings to determine performance of equipment.
Climbs ladders and stairs to inspect equipment in all weather conditions.
Exercises considerable independent judgment and initiative in recognizing problems, effecting solutions or referring to immediate supervisor.
Documents activities in the facility log; documents analysis and monitoring results on bench sheets.
Starts and stops pumps; regulates valves; monitors flow, pressure and level instruments.
Collects samples of wastewater at various stages of the treatment process; maintains and calibrates detailed analytical test equipment.
Monitors and manipulates computerized telemetry system; creates work order requests though a computer software program; performs data entry through various computer programs.
Operates sludge handling facilities, including tandem truck/trailer equipment on plant-site.
Diagnoses and corrects minor mechanical and electrical problems; performs preventive maintenance; may assist in disassembling, repairing and reassembling pumps and equipment as required.
Performs housekeeping duties such as sweeping and mopping floors, washing windows, painting and light building maintenance; performs grounds maintenance activities.
A. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED; one year experience at a water reclamation facility; possession of a current State of Florida Class "C" Wastewater license; State of Florida Driver's license required. Applicants who possess a valid out of state driver’s license must obtain the Florida driver’s license within 10 days of employment.
B. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of State laws regulating wastewater treatment, reclaimed water and biosolids.
Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of water reclamation equipment, such as pumps, motors, controls, gears, diesel generators, biosolids dewatering and other equipment.
Knowledge of basic chemistry, biology and laboratory procedures as applied to water reclamation.
Skill in operating a variety of assigned equipment and tools.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
C. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to learn complex tasks and remember how to complete tasks without assistance once trained.
Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing; correctly identify colors and hues, tints, and shades of colors by sight.
Ability and willingness to work in undesirable conditions including dust, dirt, fumes, odors, noise, wetness, humidity, hazardous chemicals and materials, heat and cold; enter and work in confined spaces as necessary when provided adequate safety devices.
Ability and willingness to work overtime, holidays and declared emergencies as required.
Ability to move back and forth and sideways while in bending, kneeling or squatting position; go from a standing or sitting position to a bending, kneeling or squatting position or vice-versa.
Ability to lift, carry, push and pull items which weigh up to 50 pounds and are considered awkward to grasp or hold on to over uneven terrain, up/down stairs, or ladders.
Ability to access and operate motor vehicles at night and during inclement weather conditions.
Ability to use small hand tools which require the use of hands, wrists and fingers. Dexterity, including fine motor skills required.
