CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS
Under the general supervision of a superior, performs a wide range of custodial tasks of routine difficulty involving the use of cleaning equipment and materials. Performs other work as required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
A. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Sweeps, mops, strips, polishes, and vacuums floors.
Washes walls, windows, woodwork, and mirrors.
Cleans all restrooms and fixtures; checks and maintains supplies.
Checks various building equipment, ensures they are working and reports those needing repair.
Removes and disposes of all rubbish and trash.
Sets up tables and chairs for scheduled events.
Climbs ladders to change light bulbs.
Schedules and replaces building air conditioning filters.
Completes small paint and repair jobs as needed.
Inspects and tests lawn sprinkler system and completes small repairs.
Moves various supplies, office equipment, and furniture as needed. Takes gas pump meter readings and records daily.
Uses measuring stick to measure and calculate fuel tanks content.
B. MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
Maintains water level and appearance of retention pond.
A. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred. Some experience in janitorial or related custodial work and ability to understand and follow oral instructions, or and equivalent combination of experience and training. Valid Florida Driver's License is required. Applicants may possess a valid out of state driver's license and obtain the Florida license within 10 days of employment. Must pass a required background investigation.
B. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of building/office cleaning processes, supplies and equipment.
Ability to understand and carry out oral instructions and to read directions as provided on cleaning supplies.
Ability to perform routine custodial duties without immediate supervision.
Ability to work effectively with other employees.
Ability to work evening hours as required.
C. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift and carry fifty (50) lbs. short distances.
Ability to climb step ladders.
Ability to learn various steps of a complex task.
Ability to read and write internal communications.
Ability to schedule periodic maintenance functions and perform them unsupervised.
Have verbal and social skills to deal with supervisors and co-workers.
Must have reasonable judgment to determine appropriate times to conduct various jobs.
