CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS

Under the general supervision of the Auditorium Recreation Superintendent, performs limited supervisory work at the Melbourne Auditorium. Duties include supervision of work crews comprised of labor and semi-skilled employees. Supervises activities during events held at the Melbourne Auditorium. Incumbents exercise limited independent judgment. Work is usually assigned by a supervisor. Work is reviewed in process and upon completion. Performs other work as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

A.    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Trains new personnel and assigns work to Custodial Assistants.

Works with and oversees assigned personnel.

Carries out assigned tasks through utilization of materials and assigned personnel.

Performs custodial and building maintenance and repair tasks alongside crew of Custodial Assistants.

Applies cleaning and floor chemicals for various uses.

Sets up and breaks down tables, chairs and booths for events and performances at the Auditorium.

Enforces Auditorium rules and regulations during scheduled events.

Available to renters during events to facilitate various Auditorium services.

Performs custodial and maintenance tasks during scheduled events held at the Auditorium.
    
Cleans outdoor grounds.

REQUIREMENTS

A.    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred. 1-2 years Custodial and building maintenance experience required. Experience in semi-skilled manual labor and the use and operation of vehicles and equipment. Valid Florida driver’s license is required. Applicants who possess a valid out of state driver’s license must obtain the Florida driver’s license within 10 day of employment.

B.    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of occupational safety rules and practices.

Knowledge of methods, materials and machinery.

Knowledge of the care and maintenance of various machinery.

Knowledge of building/office cleaning processes, supplies, and equipment.

Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to read directions as provided on cleaning supplies.

Ability to perform routine physical custodial duties without immediate supervision.

Ability to operate hand tools and power equipment.

Ability to work courteously and effectively with other employees and the public.

Ability to perform strenuous work in all weather conditions.

Ability to work irregular hours such as weekends, evenings, and early mornings.

C. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to read and interpret table and chair configurations.
    
Ability to hear, speak and understand conversation in English in a normal tone of voice.

Ability to see and read.

Ability to use small hand tools which require the use of hands, wrists, and fingers.
    
Ability to move back and forth and sideways while in a bending, kneeling, or squatting position.

Ability to stay in a bending, kneeling, or squatting position for periods less than 10 minutes.

Ability to go from a standing or sitting position to a bending, kneeling, or squatting position, or vice-versa, periodically.

Ability to walk, stand, and sit for periods longer than 30 minutes but not to exceed 8 hours consecutively.

Ability to walk continuously for more than 5 minutes at a time throughout the working day.

Ability to lift, carry, push and pull items which weigh up to 50 pounds over uneven terrain, up/down stairs or ladders.

Ability to carry items for a distance which ranges from 10 feet to no more than 300 yards.

Ability to lift and/or carry items which are considered awkward to grasp or hold on to.

Ability to lift items (weighing no more than 50 pounds) above the head or down from over the head.

Ability to hold items (weighing 1 to 50 pounds) for a period less than 10 minutes.

Ability to work in undesirable conditions including dust, dirt, heat, humidity, and chemicals.

Ability to work with and around various cleaning and floor chemicals.
