CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS
A civilian employee under the direct supervision of the Assistant Chief of Administration, responsible for assisting with the coordination of records management, apparatus & facility maintenance, equipment & supply inventory, and equipment repair & maintenance. Semi- skilled duties will be assigned in servicing and repairing a variety of fire department equipment. Responds to emergency scenes when needed, providing rehabilitation supplies and or equipment needed for firefighting personnel.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Assist with the coordination and completing the activities of the Operations, Administration, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Divisions
Maintain a complete and accurate record of scheduled and completed assignments.
Maintain a complete and accurate inventory of firefighting equipment and supplies.
Repair fire department equipment or coordinate repairs by off-site vendors.
Service and repair Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
Maintain complete and accurate service, repair, and test records for equipment.
Transport equipment, supplies, and vehicles as needed.
Assist with budget preparation.
Order and maintain an adequate level of supplies and drugs.
Fill station supply and drug requests.
Maintain the security of the Departments drug inventory.
Performs other job-related duties as required.
Operates vehicles, computers, radios, phones, fax machines, and a wide range of equipment, tools, safety gear, etc.
Interacts and communicates with immediate supervisor, other departmental supervisors, employees, trainees, consultants, and sales representatives.
Consult with supervisor on conditions, issues, or problems that cannot be readily resolved.
Provide Assistant Fire Chiefs with continual and necessary information including but not limited to absences, service problems, and major and unusual problems.
A. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
The individual must have graduated from a standard or a vocational high school or have a GED. Must possess a valid State of Florida driver license. Must hold or be capable of obtaining the certification level required for maintenance and overhaul of SCOTT self-contained breathing apparatus equipment within six months of employment.
B. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The individual must have a good working knowledge of computers and computer systems, the ability to use hand, power, pneumatic and hydraulic tools. The individual must possess the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, the ability to interact effectively with the public and fellow employees, must have knowledge of self contained breathing apparatus, medical terminology and emergency medical equipment, and a general knowledge of the city’s geography and municipal facilities.
C. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner.
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls.
The employee must have good judgment, thoroughness, conscientiousness, common sense, motivation and enthusiasm for the job.
When the work schedule or special duty requires it, the employee will work on weekends, holidays, irregular hours, and in inclement weather.
This individual must be able to respond and work effectively, efficiently, and cooperatively to handle multiple situations, assignments, and concurrent issues.
Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, and power tools.
It may be necessary for the individual to respond to emergency situations in which walking, running, climbing, reaching, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling 100 lbs. or more is required and the ability to respond quickly.
Must be able to learn complex tasks and remember how to complete task without assistance or training.
Must be able to work in dimly lit, smoky and/or dark conditions and during hot, cold and inclement weather.
Ability to print and draw letters, numbers, words, characters and symbols that are legible and understood by others.
