Council Member Betty Moore was elected in 2012 and re-elected in 2014 to represent Melbourne’s District 2, which covers the area from south of Post Road to south of Sarno Road, and from the Indian River Lagoon west to Stewart Road and Apollo Boulevard. The district includes portions of the barrier island, which is between the Indian River Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean (view map of Council Districts). Her current term extends to November of 2018.
Council Member Moore served for eight years as chairwoman of the City’s Beautification and Environmental Advisory Committee. Her service on the committee stemmed from active membership in the Melbourne Garden Club. She teaches floral design and serves as a master flower show judge.
Council Member Moore and her late husband moved to the Eau Gallie area in 1991. She became involved with neighborhood improvement efforts, and became president of Eau Gallie Crime Watch and Neighborhood Improvement.
Council Member Moore, who is the mother of three children, attended Indiana University and has been a substitute teacher for the Brevard County School System.
