April is “Water Conservation Month”

Post Date:04/01/2016 9:53 AM

The Melbourne City Council has proclaimed April 2016 to be “Water Conservation Month” in an effort to encourage all citizens to find ways to save water at their homes and businesses.

The City of Melbourne is among the local governments, businesses, agriculture and other groups who are working with the St. Johns Water Management District to develop a long-term water conservation program and instill a culture of conservation in our communities.

“Clean and sustainable water resources are vital to Florida’s environment, economy, and quality of life,” said Melbourne Mayor Kathy Meehan. “The City of Melbourne supports the efforts of the St. Johns River Water Management District and joins in designating April as Florida’s Water Conservation Month.”

The City of Melbourne encourages all residents, visitors, and businesses to help protect our precious resources by practicing water conservation measures and becoming more aware of the need to conserve water.

Here are some effective ways to save water at home:

  • Turn off the water as you brush your teeth, wash your face or shave. Faucets left in the open running position waste from several hundred to several thousand gallons of water per day.
  • Find and fix leaks. A leaky faucet or toilet can waste thousands of gallons of water each month.
