City to Hold 27th Annual Arbor Day Celebration Jan. 15

The City of Melbourne will host its 27th Annual Arbor Day celebration on Jan. 15, 2016. This year also marks the 26th year that the city has earned the “Tree City USA” certification from the Arbor Day Foundation.

Event Details:
Date: Jan. 15, 2016
Time: 10 a.m.
Location: Melbourne Military Memorial Park, 1601 Oak Street, Melbourne

Seedling Give-Away:
We will be giving away 375 seedlings on a first-come, first-served basis. The species include Live Oak, Magnolia and Red Maple.

Tree Planting:
We will be planting four 25-gallon trees (Green Buttonwood, Mahogany, Live Oak and Golden Trumpet Tree). Two memorial trees will be planted to honor members of the Garden Club and the Melbourne Fire Department.

Presentations:
Horticultural extension agent Sally Scalera will speak to the importance of trees to our community. Representatives from the Garden Club and the Fire Department will also speak. Students from Our Lady of Lourdes will perform their annual dedication to Arbor Day.
