Babcock Street Reconstruction Project Underway
The City of Melbourne has started the process of reconstructing of Babcock Street between Hibiscus Boulevard and the Florida East Coast (FEC) Railway. Prior to the roadway being reconstructed, the existing 60+ year old water line must be replaced along with several of the existing drainage pipes being repaired. Construction has begun to modify the existing curbing near the FEC railroad.
The City’s utility contractor, Youngs Communication, Inc., will be starting the water line replacement beginning August 27 and should take approximately 90 days to complete. While this work is being done, single lane closures will be required. Traffic control devices will be in place to direct traffic.
Once the water line and drainage work is complete, the City’s roadway restoration contractor, Asphalt Paving Systems, and the City’s asphalt contractor, VA Paving, Inc., will be onsite to reconstruct and resurface the roadway. The City will be providing additional information closer to the time of construction.
Specific closures will be posted on the City of Melbourne website as they are scheduled.
