CASE # 18-50520

Through a combination of good investigation and communication involving Melbourne Police Department Criminal Investigations Division, Uniform Patrol Division, Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, and a community business partner, a suspect was identified in the theft of the trailer. Working on the information received, MPD detectives located the stolen Boy Scout trailer at an address in South Melbourne. It appears most or all of the scouting equipment that was stored inside was also recovered. The suspect, Stephen Petnel, was interviewed this afternoon and confessed to the theft. An inventory of the stolen trailer will be conducted when it is turned over to the Boy Scouts. Petnel was arrested and will be turned over to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
