Trash Bash volunteers remove 4,301 pounds of litter from Melbourne in one day
The annual Trash Bash event was held in Melbourne on April 7. On a day that featured beautiful weather, 234 volunteers displayed community pride as they collected 4,301 pounds of litter from 10 sites throughout the City. Litter collection was also done by kayakers in the Indian River Lagoon near the Crane Creek Promenade and Manatee Park.
“Trash Bash helps beautify the City and decreases the potential for a great deal of litter being washed into storm drains during rain events,” said Environmental Community Outreach Manager Jennifer Wilster.
A special thank you goes to the companies that supported the event through food and gift card donations. These included:
- Dunkin’ Donuts (W. New Haven Boulevard and Lake Washington Road stores)
- Einstein Bagels (U.S. 1 store)
- Krispy Kreme Doughnuts
- Love Bugs Donuts and Bakery
- McDonald’s (Sarno Road, Hibiscus Boulevard and E. Eau Gallie Boulevard stores)
Waste Management assisted by collecting the trash bags at the various locations after the clean-up ended.
Trash Bash is sponsored by Keep Brevard Beautiful (KBB) with clean-up sites throughout the various cities and communities in Brevard County. It is sponsored nationally by Keep America Beautiful as the Great American Cleanup.
