CASE# MP180009716

Event: Shooting Incident

Date/Time of Event:  02/13/2018 1837 hours
Location of Event:   (Lizzy’s Restaurant) 1301 East University Boulevard, Melbourne FL 32901

The Melbourne Police Department received calls via 911 at approximately 1837 hours in reference to a disturbance involving numerous people shooting firearms.  The restaurant does not have indoor seating and serves food to customers who usually take their orders with them or eat at their cars in the parking lot.  At the time of this incident there was a large crowd of patrons ranging of all ages.  The large crowd made it difficult for the initial responding officers to determine who may have been involved, but ultimately it was discovered that those responsible had left the scene prior to our arrival.  One person was transported to a local hospital for lacerations received by shattering glass and shrapnel.  No other victims came forward, nor did anyone respond to local hospitals with injuries consistent with the shooting.

Evidence at the scene indicates there were multiple people participating in the shooting and their actions were conducted with complete disregard for the safety of the community.

Members of the Melbourne Police Department are actively investigating this incident and encourage anyone with information to call the department at 321-608-6731 or Crime Line: 1-800-423-TIPS (8477)

The Media Relations Office is available during normal business hours Mon-Fri., 8am-5pm. During non-business hours, please contact us by calling our non-emergency number (321-608-6731) for the on-duty Watch Commander. Thank you.
